Ugly Songs for Ugly People – Brat’ya Gryaz’ (Mud Brothers)
We’ve got another entry into the crates at Write Brain TV’s ever-expanding Underground Music Library, and this week we have a sonic bombardment of Noise-Punk to pummel your eardrums!
Progenitors of a unique brand of propulsive and dense experimental Post-Punk, Vladivostok-based powerhouse trio Brat’ya Gryaz’ (which translates in English to ‘Mud Brothers’) deliver a barrage of heavyweight blows with 2024’s Ugly Songs for Ugly People. Dissonant guitars gasp for air while hash-treacled bass riffs batter the low end and truncheon-handed drumsticks pummel stretched-taut head and hide. Simply put, this album delivers nothing but haymakers. Kayo. Bell rung. Head on the mat and blood pouring out of your ears from repeated licks to the side of the dome.
Thrashing and thumping away on their instruments are Anton Kolbinov (bass, vocals, lyrics), Vitaliy Didenko (guitar), Maxim Kirichek (drums); in 2021, the band coalesced at a bar over a shared love of Gilla Band, Butthole Surfers, A Place to Bury Strangers, and since then they have been recording and steadily establishing a foothold in the thriving local experimental art rock scene.
Recently, the band has regularly performed industrial/harsh-noise programs and noise-art installations at local contemporary art galleries, as well as caravanning in the infamous punk rock tour van, ‘Gazelle of Death’.
WRITE BRAIN TV is proud to drop the needle on the behemoth sounds of Brat’ya Gryaz’!
